So tonight I dialed 411 on my cell phone.
411: "Cingular wireless...what city and state?"
Me: "Grapevine, TX"
411: " How can I help you?"
Me: "Best Buy"
411: "Hang on...have a great day."
Then the cool automated voice comes on a says..."The num-ber you re-quest-ed is blah blah blah - blah blah blah - blah blah blah blah. For no extra charge we will connect you (or something like that.)"
So while auto voice person is stating the number - I am driving - I am looking for a pen and something to write the number because with my luck...I will get disconnected or need to call Best Buy back. Then it hit me...Cingular needs to provide another option than just connecting us...how about this "Press 1 to download this number to your phone." BAM! Who would not love that!

With Nextel/Sprint, we have the option of pressing a button to have the number text-messaged to the cell phone. Gotta love Nextel. :)
Verizon auto connects you and you can have it text -messaged as well.
Nextel connects you and text messages the address and phone number to you.
First off I'm sure that Cingular would not love that because it would take hard earned money out of their pockets, but as far as the idea goes it's a great one, but an auto connect seems more conveinant and if Cingular wants to charge big bucks for the connection then I'm sure they'd charge you to use the a download as well. What I use, which is much better then paying Cingular is Free 411 their number is 800-373-3411 or 800-Free-411. You have to listen to a ten second advertisement, but they connect you for free and give free directory assistance. I'd much rather support a small start up then put more money in Cingular's pockets.
What I use is Google SMS. You can send a text message to 46645 containing the name of the person or business you are wanting the phone number to and the zipcode and it sends it back to you. Phone that can detect the phone number in the text message can then just select the number and it will dial it for you.
